'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro's Hand Impaled In 'Terrible' Bowling Accident

Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro is recovering from what he described as a “terrible accident."

On Wednesday (September 23), the confection star took to Instagram with an image showing him laying in a hospital bed, with his right arm completely bandaged. "I was involved in a terrible accident a few days ago...What do you think of my new accessory?" Valastro captioned the photo, jokingly referring to the cast as his "iron fist."

"I had a really bad accident the other day at my house with my hand. I’m in the best care possible,” he later shared in an Instagram Live video. “I just wanted to thank you guys for all the love and support, and we're going to get through this together.”

While Valastro didn’t provide further details about his injuries, a spokeswoman for Carol’s Bakery explained the 43-year-old TV star suffered a horrifying incident while bowling with family this past weekend.

“There was a malfunction with the bowling pinsetter, a common fix in the past, but (it) turned into a terrible accident,” they told TODAY. “After trying to release the bowling pin from the cage mechanism, his right hand became lodged and compressed inside the unit.”

Unable to dislodge his hand, Valastro had to endure a metal rod “slowly and repeatedly impale his hand three times between his ring finger and middle finger.” It wasn’t until his sons, Buddy Jr. and Marco, retrieved a saw from the garage that they were able to cut through the rod and free their father’s hand from the machine.

Valastro underwent an emergency operation to have the rod removed and another with an orthopedic surgeon. While the baker appears to be recovering, his spokeswoman said, “It will be an uphill battle as it’s Buddy’s dominant right hand and he will need prolonged recovery and therapy.”
