Blake Shelton Believes Gwen Stefani's Return To 'The Voice' Saved The Show

2016 Billboard Music Awards - Show

As The Voice prepares to premiere its 17th season, Blake Shelton is still reeling over the departure of his frenemy Adam Levine; however, he is grateful that his girlfriend Gwen Stefani stepped in to reprise her role as coach.

"You know, when you're a coach on there and trying to navigate and keeping in mind that you are supposed to be entertaining the audience at home, you know, it's kind of a juggling act." Blake said in a statement with press. "So, having her there, selfishly for me made me happy and I think it kind of saved the show with Adam going away."

Though he's happy to have her around, there's still going to be an Adam sized hole in the country star's heart. "There’s no way around it. That sucks not having Adam there," he admitted. "He’s a major part of that show and my favorite person to kick in the nuts."

Levine announced his departure from the singing competition show back in May, sharing a lengthy, heartfelt note to his colleagues and fans via Instagram. Shelton and Stefani will be joined by coaches Kelly Clarkson and John Legend. Season 17 of The Voice is set to premiere September 23 on NBC.
