Michael Franti & Spearhead Drop Powerful Video For 'The Flower'

Michael Franti & Spearhead recently teamed up with Victoria Canal for an emotional song called "The Flower," and the accompanying music video sheds light on the individuals and families impacted by gun violence in our nation.

In partnership with Tom's new campaign, "End Gun Violence Together," the five-minute visual is a simple one that features the pair at a piano, offering up the tender track about healing. In between performance scenes, the clip also presents gun violence survivors, as well as families mourning the loss of their late loved ones from shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Pulse Nightclub in Orlando and the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. "The Flower" will appear on Michael Franti & Spearhead's album, Stay Human Vol. II, which is due on January 25.

"The issue really came home when my wife, Sara Agah Franti, and I discovered a couple years ago that a stray bullet had ripped through the wall of my son’s bedroom, then through a second wall and ended up in our living room," Franti said in a statement. "I live in a neighborhood in San Francisco called Hunter’s Point, where we have a lot of gun violence in our community, but as I traveled the country I found that sadly this is not unique."

Back in 2017, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reported a total of 39,773 gun violence deaths, up 3,000 from 2016, so it's no surprise that Toms founder Blake Mycoskie announced the "End Gun Violence Together" campaign in November with a $5 million commitment to the cause. The campaign-style tour includes stops in Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and other destinations, where brand reps will meet with gun violence activists in impacted communities. After the tour wraps, more than 700,000 protester-penned postcards will be sent to congressional representatives in Washington D.C. to call for stricter gun laws.
